March 15th, 2022 - Modeling Proposed Structures in HEC-RAS

Within HEC-RAS, the group was able to create four alternative designs for a 100 year 24 hour storm event to help with flooding experienced at the site. The alternative designs included changing the semicircular culverts under Canoe Brook Parkway to one bigger concrete box culvert, enlarging both the cart path bridge on Summit Municipal Golf Course and the roadway bridge on Wallace Road, and replacing multiple smaller drain pipes on the Canoe Brook Golf Course with one large box culvert. Overtopping issues experienced at each structure were substantially eliminated in HEC-RAS due to increased flow capacities each design presented; overtopping measurements of 3/4', 3/4', 1/2', and 1' were all reduced to zero with the designs working in conjunction with one another. The group believes that implementing all four alternative designs would be the best approach to improve the issues experienced at the site.
